Pet hair, roller brushes and what anti-tangle actually means
If you own a shedding pet, the question that matters is not suction. It is whether you will still be cutting hair off the main roller every few weeks — and whether the machine you are buying makes that job easier or unchanged.
Why hair matters more than suction
A roller wrapped in hair does not lose suction gradually; it stops. The brush is the airflow path, so a wound roller starves the motor and the whole machine gets quieter and worse at once. More suction does not push hair off a brush. In practice pet households end up with a small pair of scissors and a monthly routine, and the honest question is whether a given machine removes that routine or merely delays it.
Three mechanisms, described differently by each manufacturer
- Split or combed bristles. The brush is divided so hair slides to one side and off. A straightforward mechanism, described in mechanical terms.
- Outward-facing bristle angle. Bristles point away from the roller axis so hair does not wind in. Also mechanical, usually stated as a design angle.
- Side-brush or comb assist. A secondary brush or comb removes hair the main roller picks up. Often combined with the two above.
What the published claims in this catalogue say
| Model | AU price | What the manufacturer writes |
|---|---|---|
| ECOVACS DEEBOT N20 PLUS | A$423 | ZeroTangle roller brush with a 21° flat and outward-facing design. |
| ECOVACS DEEBOT T30S PRO PLUS | A$624 | ZeroTangle 3.0 — ARClean anti-tangle side brush plus Triple-V roller; ECOVACS Labs reports 0% tangling with dry hair under 25 cm. |
| Dreame X50 Ultra | A$1,299 | DuoBrush, marketed against hair wrap on the main roller. |
| Dreame Matrix10 Ultra | A$1,999 | HyperStream detangling DuoBrush; vendor states it manages hair up to 50cm long. |
How to read those claims
One entry above reports a laboratory tangle-rate figure with stated test conditions — hair length, hair type, test duration. That is the most useful kind of claim because you can check whether the test matches your home: a figure measured on dry, straight hair under a stated length tells you less about a home with two shedding pets than the mechanism description next to it does.
The others describe the mechanism and the problem it addresses, which is honest but not measurable. Neither form says “you will never cut hair off this roller”, and this site does not turn either into that promise.
What to budget your time on
With a shedding pet, plan on checking the roller yourself roughly monthly as a starting point and adjust from there — every pet, every coat and every brush differs, which is why this site publishes no interval as a fact. If you are buying the most expensive machine in the catalogue specifically to avoid this job, note what a dock does and does not automate: none of the models here cut hair off a roller.
This site has not operated any of these machines and publishes no test results of its own. Every quotation above is the manufacturer's own wording from the page linked on each model page.
