Mopping on carpet, and why mop lift matters

A robot that mops and vacuums in the same pass will drag a wet pad across carpet unless it lifts it. That is the whole reason mop-lift specifications exist, and it is the single feature on this site most often worth checking before buying.

What actually goes wrong

Three things, in order of how quickly you notice them:

  1. Damp pile. A wet pad leaves water in the pile. It may dry within an hour in a ventilated room and stay noticeable for days under a closed door.
  2. Clumped pile. Damp fibres stick together and take longer to recover their shape. Short-term pile distortion is normal and usually reverses; repeated damp passes are what flatten it.
  3. Lost suction exactly where you need it. A wet pad over carpet reduces airflow through an already-soft surface, which is the opposite of what a vacuum pass is for.

None of this is a reason to avoid mopping. It is a reason to check whether the machine lifts the pad before it reaches the carpet at all.

Models that publish a mop lift

Figures and wording read from manufacturer Australian pages on 2026-10-04.
Model What the manufacturer writes
ECOVACS DEEBOT T30S PRO PLUS “Carpet First” vacuums carpets dry first, then lifts the mop 9mm when a carpet is detected.
Dreame X50 Ultra Mop lifts over carpet; the dock washes pads with 80°C water and dries them with hot air.
Dreame Matrix10 Ultra TripleUp Tech lifts the mops 10.5mm while vacuuming so carpets stay dry, and lifts the brushes while mopping.

Models that do not publish one

ECOVACS DEEBOT N20 PLUS do not publish automatic mop lifting. This site records that as not published rather than absent: the manufacturer may simply not describe the feature rather than the machine lacking it. What is certain is that you should not buy either on the assumption it lifts, and the matcher will show you the gap rather than gloss it.

If your model has no published mop lift

This site has not operated any of these machines. The table reproduces what manufacturers publish; it is not a measurement of how much water reaches a carpet in practice.
